Stephen is a Challenge Research Manager in SFI’s Challenge Research team where he leads SFI’s Food and AI for Societal Good Challenges. Stephen has led a number of SFI investment programmes across areas such as industry-academic collaboration and entrepreneurship.

Prior to joining SFI, Stephen was a Principal Investigator in the Biomedical Diagnostics Institute at Dublin City University where he led a team developing smartphone-based technologies for disease management. Before joining the BDI, Stephen was a founding team member of Blackrock Castle Observatory and lectured for several years at Cork Institute of Technology (CIT). Stephen holds a PhD in Applied Physics from CIT and has technical interests across a broad range of areas including imaging, machine learning and scientific computing.
