Daragh O’Brien

Founder & MD, Castlebridge

Daragh O Brien is the founder and MD of Castlebridge, one of Europe’s leading data governance, privacy, and data ethics consultancies. Over the past decade, Castlebridge has worked with organisations from charities and start-ups to armies to government departments helping to change how people think about information, and the opportunities and risks that come with advances in information management capabilities.

Daragh is also the co-founder of Noppera Bo Technologies Ltd, a technology startup developing privacy enhancing technologies to help organisations unlock the value in video. Their flagship product, Noppera, provides AI-assisted video redaction technologies to simplify subject access requests, manage compliance costs, and provide turnkey privacy solutions for Smart Cities initiatives.

He works “hands-on” with clients helping them develop business-driven data strategies, defining pragmatic data governance frameworks, and implementing practical approaches to balance data privacy obligations and other considerations in the design or deployment of new technologies.

Daragh was the Data Protection Officer to the Michael D. Higgins campaign in the last Presidential election.

He has a degree in Business and Legal Studies from UCD. Prior to founding Castlebridge in 2009, he worked for a decade and a half in the telecommunication sector in information management and regulatory roles. He is an award winning pioneer in the fields of information quality and data governance, and an internationally recognised expert in data privacy and data ethics.

He is the co-author of Ethical Data and Information Management, published by Kogan Page in 2018, and he is a featured columnist on TDAN.com, one of the longest running independent online publications for the Information Management profession. He is also a popular speaker at conferences and events in Ireland, the UK, Europe, and North America.
